Extra Virgin Olive Oil : More than a healthy fat

Extra Virgin Olive Oil : More than a healthy fat

To say that Covid has thrown a wrench in the works of the entire planet is no exaggeration. Having a vaccine is a large part of the solution to this global health crisis. So is building a stronger immune system. The anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immune system properties of the Mediterranean Diet, and in particular of Extra virgin olive oil, can play an important part in the fight against the pandemic.

Good health is never to be taken for granted. At least science and nature have given us the tools to better take care of ourselves.

And science has the answer: the body needs less saturated fats, the so-called “bad” fats, which often tend to be solid at room temperature and from animal sources, and more unsaturated fats, the “good” fats, which are usually liquid and from plant sources. Of course, the people of Greece and the Mediterranean knew that long before science investigated and confirmed it as a fact. Their diet helped them maintain normal blood cholesterol levels, preventing heart disease and strokes. The generations of old might not have had a lot on their table, but one thing that wasn’t missing was Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It tasted great and was good for them.

At Monogram we are proud to continue making a product that has helped generations grow up strong and healthy.

The health benefits of the Mediterranean diet have been well documented over the years. The good news is that more and more studies confirm these benefits and deepen our understanding of them. A new study, presented at the American Heart Association’s Prevention, Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health Scientific Sessions 2020, shows that replacing a mere five grams of margarine, butter, or mayonnaise with the same amount of olive oil was associated with up to a 7% lower risk of coronary artery disease. But as the study’s author, Dr. Frank Hu, who chairs the Department of Nutrition at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health says, “the main thing is to replace unhealthy fats with olive oil and that can improve cholesterol, reduce inflammatory biomarkers and improve cardiovascular health.”

Advice well worth taking to heart, wouldn’t you say?
